New pieces for a New Year!

Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season...

I'm working on my next birthstone the Garnet...should be up in a day or so, but in the mean time here is a little something to look at!

This is a pyrite stone (fool's gold) wire wrapped with Argentium silver...this makes for a great conversation piece!!

I love these cuffs...simple and elegant on their own but put a couple together and they certainly make a statement!! This one is narrow, approximately a 5mm wide piece of sterling silver has a nice ridged detail on both edges, the center feature is stamped with an .S. feature...cut, stamped, sanded, polished and tumbled by me!

Now this cuff makes a "wide" statement...a 28mm wide piece of Argentium silver has been hammered, sanded, polished, shaped and tumbled...love this one!!

This simple ring was made from sterling silver, a base ring was made and the remaining silver was then wound around it...

This is a great necklace...simplicity at its best, you can dress it up or down...your choice! This "bean" shaped sterling silver bead is approximately 16mm wide and of course hanging from a sterling silver chain!

As you can see, for the time being I seem to be leaning towards simplicity...classy but not stuffy, allowing the piece to speak for itself!! Who knows what I'll do tomorrow or the next day???

Cheers

  5. Amy...this necklace was "inspired" by a Tiffany necklace, it may have been an Elsa Periti I don't know, I never checked...a customer came to me a year ago explaining about this simple but classy "bean" necklace she saw and could I come up with something similiar...I looked around and found this simple "bean" shaped bead. Originally I made chokers on black leather cords but this fall I started putting the bead on sterling silver chains. Often customers come up with interesting requests, which I try to satisfy but... in my own design and style!!!

    Cheers

  6. Thanks for the kind words Heidi...in answer to your question...how do I come up with the ideas...I try to think of different and unusual things to make, my mind is going constantly. Certain companies I purchase materials from post design ideas but I stay away from those...I might use a technique but not the design. I have bought tutorials for special techniques for items... Coming up with a design is different it should come from your own mind. My daughter will make suggestions and of course customer requests.

Customers often request specific design ideas as in the case of the last silver necklace in this post... a customer requested this style of necklace(see the reply to Amy), which is a challenge in itself to find what they are looking for but keeping the piece in my own style/design.

Customer requests I love the most are those who say "I need a necklace for this date, I'm wearing this color and style, make me something", those kinds of requests are exciting.

There are so many talented people out there a design is never usually just yours...others make a similiar kind of piece but put their own style/twist on it, which is the way it is...I strive to be as different as I can!!!!

My goal has always been to work with silver...to make pieces that some day someone will look at and say "that is an Azure Island Design" piece...I've really just started seriously working with silver this fall so I'm heading in the right direction!!!!
    Cheers
